Tips on how to shop consignment:

October 2nd, 2008
  • Know some of the mainstream brands, so you know if you’re getting a deal or not; ie: designer jeans like Rock and Republic, Citizens of Humanity, etc.
  • Don’t hesitate to ask about a price – if something has been priced inappropriately you will likely get a discount on the item.
  • You’ll often find brand new items that a consignor bought and never wore – these are generally great deals.
  • Look for good quality items to add to your classic, versatile pieces in your closet.
  • To update your look, consignment stores are great places to find funky tops and skirts at low costs, which is important if you only wear the items for one season.
  • If you know your style, or what you’re looking for, don’t feel frustrated by looking through several racks of “one of’s” clothing. It does take time (although sometimes that’s the fun part!), and sometimes you may browse right past something you would like without even noticing. If you ask whoever is working in the store, she’ll find the best items for your personal taste and style, quickly.
  • If you’re looking for a whole new style, or maybe you’ve lost or gained some weight and need to replace some items in your closet, consignment shopping is a great, inexpensive way to do that. Don’t hesitate to call ahead and have some items to your personal preference put aside for when you want to come in.

Shopping tips

October 1st, 2008

Avoid the mall. Look for great deals and unique items at independent consignment stores and boutiques. That way you can shop on a budget and not be wearing the same thing everyone else may be wearing.

Invest in good quality, versatile items, ie: skirts, pants, jeans and jackets in solid colours. Invest in a great bag and comfortable shoes or boots. Accent your wardrobe with fun, flirty tops, T-shirts, skirts, shoes, bags, and accessories that you can update annually and pair with your more expensive, classic pieces. Your wardrobe doesn’t need to be boring, or expensive. Know what you have in your closet and when you’re shopping, think about what would go with items you already have, and what you need to update. Sometimes all you may need is a couple of new T’s and camis, a jacket and a few new accessories to freshen up your look.
